Man billed with arson right after St. Paul condominium fire displaces 19 people today

ST PAUL, Minn. — A 38-year-previous male was charged with one count of initially-degree arson after a a few-story apartment setting up in St. Paul burned Tuesday and displaced 19 persons.

St. Paul police claimed they were being in the beginning known as to the developing, found on the 1600 block of Marion Street in St. Paul’s North End neighborhood, at about 6:15 p.m.

According to the felony complaint, a male who lives in the creating instructed officers the incident began when he and his sister were being approached outside the house by Gieske with a knife. The 911-caller said he then brandished a gun, prompting Gieske to run from the scene.

The person said after he returned to his apartment, there was a disturbance at his door. He reported he then recognized an odor identical to lighter fluid, and seemed out the peephole in his door, recognizing Gieske.

The male claimed he explained to Gieske he was likely to call police, and soon immediately after, observed flames coming into his next-ground condominium. He was equipped to escape out his balcony.

The St. Paul Police Office said officers arrived to the building at about 6:30 p.m. and located fireplace and smoke on the building’s back again stairwell, as effectively as smoke coming from the next flooring. The fire division was then termed in to aid.
